▤ Formula reference

CBM = L × W × H × quantity, converted to m³

Volumetric weight = CBM × carrier factor

Chargeable weight = higher of actual or volumetric weight

Instructions, formula & limitations

How to use

  1. Measure the outside length, width, and height of one packed carton.
  2. Choose the measurement unit, enter the number of cartons, and add the actual total weight.
  3. Use the volumetric factor supplied by your carrier or forwarder and compare the result with the quote.

Calculation method

CBM equals length × width × height × quantity after converting every dimension to meters. Volumetric weight equals total CBM × the carrier factor. Estimated chargeable weight is the higher of actual and volumetric weight.

Limitations

Carrier divisors, rounding rules, minimum charges, pallets, route rules, and oversized surcharges vary. This calculator does not provide live freight rates and cannot replace the carrier's final chargeable-weight calculation.

Common questions

What is CBM?

CBM means cubic meter, a standard measurement of shipment volume.

Which volumetric factor should I use?

Use the factor printed in your carrier or forwarder quote. Air freight often uses about 167 kg per cubic meter, but courier and route rules differ.

Does this calculate a shipping price?

No. It estimates volume and chargeable weight only; it does not include live freight rates or surcharges.
